In Her Own Words

Following completion of my BSc degree, I took on two unpaid volunteer jobs, one in an acute forensic medium security unit as a befriender, and another in a first episode in psychosis service in the community as an assistant psychologist. Working with individuals in severe distress that have experienced a lot of traumas in their lives, made me want to pursue a career as a psychologist to be able to help them recover from traumatic life experiences to be able to lead a more functional life free from distress and suffering.

This drive has continued to follow me throughout my career seen in my publications and in my current work on acute inpatient units in implementing a trauma-informed approach to care. I have always been an advocate of recovery and recovery-based approaches, as I believe that people can recover from mental health difficulties to be able to lead a meaningful life.
